Dan's directing background is in the world of commercials and film. His sharp, sometimes dark, photographic style has garnered him many prestigious advertising awards both in film & photography. In 2018, Dan went to Cox’s Bazaar to make a film and photographic campaign on behalf of BRAC (Building Resources Across Communities), the largest non-governmental development organisation in the world, to help draw attention to the situation of the Rohingya refugees.
We invited Dan to submit some images in support of the competition and to help build awareness. These are in the non-competitive section of the contest.
"Although I was only in the camps for 5 days, I spent a lot of time with the Rohingya children, particularly as they were a key element to the film we were making. Many violent stories were recounted as I slowly began to notice the same hollowness in those poor children’s eyes. Nothing more needed to be said as there eyes showed the real horror of their experiences. That look is etched in my mind forever, no child should have to endure the horrors of this crisis."
