The world is living through unprecedented times. The Rohingya in the camps of Bangladesh are facing enormous pressures. A photography competition at this time, based in the camps and elsewhere, may help us visualise and understand the contexts in which they live and which we helped create. Such a competition would represent a notebook of the times.
Following the competition, Professor John Packer, Professor of Law and Director of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) at the University of Ottawa, will exhibit the photographs in Ottawa and, it is hoped, in other institutions in Canada. Oxford Human Rights Festival have also agreed to exhibit the photographs as part of their focus and conversation on “Resilience”. Alex Schneideman of Flow Photographic, London (published documentary photographer and studio owner) will run a series of photographs from the competition on his instagram channel. Dhaka Tribune, an English language daily newspaper in Bangladesh, will feature the winning photographs.
The competition will run from April to August with judging sometime in September 2020.
